Cai Yan, 32 anni, allenatore di nuoto presso un club di Mudanjiang City, nella provincia di Heilongjiang, ha attraversato a nuoto lo stretto di Qiongzhou (nella foto tratta da Google Earth) , che separa la penisola di Leizhou, nella provincia cinese di Guangdong dall'isola di Hainan e mette in comunicazione il Golfo del Tonchino con il Mar Cinese Meridionale.
Cai ha dedicato l'impresa (26,5 Km in 9 ore e 38 minuti) ai suoi giovani atleti. "Il mare è come la vita: a volte calmo, a volte agitato. Spero che anche i miei ragazzi sapranno raccogliere e affrontare le sfide della vita per accumulare saggezza ed esperienza".
