La brasiliana Ana Marcela Cunha (nella foto) e il tedesco Florian Wellbrock sono stati nominati Open Water Swimmers of the Year dalla rivista USA Swimming World Magazine.
Cunha ha vinto i 5K e i 25K ai Mondiali di Gwangju e i 10K ai Panamericani di Lima, mentre Wellbrock è diventato il primo nuotatore della storia ad aggiudicarsi nella stessa edizione il titolo mondiale dei 10K e dei 1500 in vasca.
