Un po' lontano dalla passione di Greg, ma comunque apprezzati per l'uso raffinatissimo del bianco e nero, i lavori in studio di Robert Mapplethorpe sono frutto di una personalità apparentemente bipolare, capace però di esaltare la bellezza e l'estetica dai soggetti più disparati: dalla statuaria presenza fisica di Lisa Lyon, ai delicatissimi fiori, alle smorfie "alla Haring" di Grace Jones fino ai suoi aitanti modelli afro-americani.
