Dopo la Kitajima Cup di questo fine settimana il nuoto di élite del Giappone torna in vasca per la disputa dei Japan Open in programma dal 3 al 7 febbraio presso quello che sarà (forse) il campo gara dei Giochi Olimpici di questa estate, il Tokyo Aquatics Center.
Il format della manifestazione prevede batterie e finali ad eccezione degli 800 e 1500 stile libero che seguiranno il criterio della serie, saranno al via tutti i migliori nuotatori del paese compreso il rientrante Daiya Seto , molto attesa la sfida sui 200 rana fra Shouma Sato e Ippei Watanabe .
