L'ufficialità è stata data dal ministro Yoshihide Suga: in Giappone è scattato in poche ore lo stato d'emergenza a causa dell'innalzamento dei contagi di Covid-19.
In questi minuti è arrivata la notizia: conseguentemente alle nuove regole imposte dallo stato di emergenza, il pubblico non avrà accesso alle Olimpiadi. L'ha confermato il Ministro dello Sport Tamavo Marukawa.
La decisione è stata presa a due settimane dall'inizio della manifestazione, con l'arrivo a Tokyo del Presidente del CIO Thomas Bach.
