Per USA Swimming, l'ente che governa il nuoto a stelle e strisce, Caeleb Dressel è l'atleta dell'anno, mentre Amy Hoppenwrath ha ottenuto il riconoscimento riservato agli ufficiali di gara.
I riconoscimenti sono stati annunciati nel corso della cerimonia di inaugurazione dell'anno sportivo.
Il premio di atleta dell'anno è riconosciuto al nuotatore o alla nuotatrice che ha avuto le migliori performance nel corso della stagione passata: con le sue cinque medaglie d'oro alle Olimpiadi di Tokyo c'erano quindi pochi dubbi sull'affermazione di Dressel.
Per l'allievo di Gregg Troy è il terzo riconoscimento dopo quelli ottenuti nel 2017 e 2019.
