La città di Adelaide (AUS) ha ritirato la propria candidatura per ospitare l'edizione 2026 dei Giochi del Commonwealth. La decisione è stata comunicata dal governatore del South Australia.
La decisione è dovuta all'impossibilità di predisporre le strutture necessarie ad ospitare l'evento in tempo utile e ai dubbi sull'equilibrio economico finanziario complessivo dell'operazione. A fronte di spese per 3,5 miliardi di dollari australiani (circa 2,15 miliardi di euro) uno studio indipendente stima infatti entrate per 1,2 miliardi (circa 736 milioni di euro).
