Il nuotatore ventenne della nazionale irlandese, Robbie Powell , è stato squalificato per un anno dalla Sports Ireland Anti-Doping per la positività al Clostebol riscontrata in un test a sorpresa effettuato lo scorso 28 novembre 2019, la sostanza vietata appartiene alla classe S1 ed è un agente anabolizzante, la sanzione inflitta è stata minima perchè all'atleta è stata riconosciuta la negligenza, una violazione accidentale e non volontaria, pare che la sostanza in oggetto fosse contenuta in una crema, il Trofodermin, utilizzata per curare un eczema di cui soffre, il suo rientro alle competizioni è fissato per il prossimo 27 novembre in tempo utile per tentare la qualificazione olimpica.
Powell ha dichiarato: “ Riconosco il mio errore e mi scuso con i miei sostenitori, i miei colleghi e i miei allenatori. È importante che sappiano che è stato un errore in buona fede, Sport Ireland ha confermato che non vi erano intenzioni di violare le norme che sostengo pienamente e che sono sempre stato sempre attento a rispettarle ".
