Test event 800. Per 5/100esimi vince Mykhailo Romanchuk con il nuovo ER (7.25.73)

Nel corso del pomeriggio di ieri, al termine delle prove della prima giornata di gare della finalissima ISL di Budapest,  si è disputata nella Duna Arena la prova sugli 800 stile libero maschili, un test event voluto dagli organizzatori per studiare nuovi format e nuove assegnazioni di punteggio per il futuro del circuito, probabilmente anche per attrarre nuove stelle del nuoto mondiale come Katie Ledecky e l'azzurro Gregorio Paltrinieri .

L'ucraino Mykhailo Romanchuk (24) per soli 5/100esimi di secondo si è aggiudicato la vittoria sul norvegese Henrik Christiansen (24) , il riscontro cronometrico al touch finale dice 7.25.73 contro 7.25.78, entrambi gi atleti hanno nuotato la distanza sotto il precedente record europeo del francese Yannick Agnel che nel 2012 nuotò 7.29.17, per loro anche la seconda e la terza prestazione mondiale di specialità di ogni epoca che vede il nostro Gregorio Paltrinieri slittare in quinta posizione nel ranking  all-time (7.30.31), dopo di lui l'azzurro Federico Cobertaldo che nel 2009 al "Duel in the Pool", parente prossimo della ISL, nuotò 7.31.18.

In questa prova fuori circuito rispetto al format ISL 2020 gli otto nuotatori in gara non hanno portato punteggio per nessuno dei quattro team finalisti, in gara; Mikhail Romanchuk (Ucraina), Felix Auboeck (Austria) e Zane Grothe (USA); che hanno partecipato alla stagione 2020, e per l'occasione  anche Akos Kalmár (Ungheria), Damien Joly (Francia), David Aubry (Francia), Henrik Christiansen (Norvegia) e Lander Henrickx (Belgio).
