Il CIO ha ufficializzato mezzo comunicato stampa le date dei Giochi rinviati di un anno a causa della pandemia del coronavirus. Si svolgeranno nel medesimo periodo estivo, dal 23 luglio all’8 agosto 2021 anziché dal 24 luglio al 9 agosto 2020, segue il link al comunicato completo.
I Giochi Paralimpici andranno in scena dal 24 agosto al 5 settembre 2021.
L’ufficialità è arrivata dopo una conferenza telefonica, alla quale hanno partecipato il Presidente del CIO Thomas Bach, il Presidente di Tokyo 2020 Mori Yoshirō, il Governatore di Tokyo, Koike Yuriko e il Ministro olimpico e paralimpico Hashimoto Seiko.
