Il portavoce del Dipartimento di stato Edward "Ned" Price afferma che gli USA stanno valutando di boicottare le Olimpiadi invernali di Pechino 2022 a causa delle ripetute violazioni dei diritti umani perpetrate dal governo cinese. Price sottolinea che "un approccio coordinato non sarebbe solo nel nostro interesse ma anche nell'interesse dei nostri alleati e partner", fra i quali anche l'Italia.
Una posizione molto forte che non mancherà di impattare sulla politica sportiva nel breve e medio termine, con possibili ripercussioni anche sullo svolgimento delle ormai imminenti Olimpiadi di Tokyo.
