Anche i vertici di European Aquatics hanno accolto on entusiasmo l'integrazione dei 50 metri dorso, rana e farfalla nel programma olimpico di Los Angeles. Nella nota della federnuoto continentale l'ìpotesi di un possibile ampliamento del numero massimo di partecipanti per genere (attualmente 26), oppure l’aggiunta di ulteriori giornate di gara per consentire lo svolgimento dei nuovi eventi.
Il presidente di European Aquatics, Antonio Silva:"Accogliamo con favore l’espansione del programma olimpico e crediamo che queste nuove gare generino ulteriore entusiasmo e interesse per il nostro sport."
Craig Hunter, presidente del comitato tecnico di European Aquatics, ha aggiunto:"Molti atleti a fine carriera, che non riescono più a sostenere i carichi della distanza doppia o delle staffette, potrebbero invece continuare puntando sui 50 metri."
